So I put in my Windows Vista 32 bit DVD and boot up from the CDROM by holding F12 at the gigabyte motherboard screen. There seems to be no setting relating to SATA at all on this board, and any that I wasn't sure about I looked up and/or changed to test them. I tried adding the drivers to a usb I had created with the Microsoft usb/DVD tool, I tried selecting an iso and creating the installation usb using the gigabyte windows image

You need to list which HDD has first boot priority, but the BIOS assigns your PATA and your SATA drives to these IDE channels automatically. Mine does, though I generally maintain a Windows XP installation CD image with the latest service pack and recent hotfixes slipstreamed in anyway, so it isn't much effort to add in
